On my last visit to the US my sister told me that she finds gardening therapeutic and so does her 5 year old daughter. I wondered how a 5 year old would actually show interest in gardening but you know kids always surprise you. In my search for the best kept secrets in Mumbai I learnt about Eco Kids. Eco Kids is a project started by Smita Kharbanda to introduce the children to get a chance to be urban farmers.

The whole cycle of what you grow is what you eat is what you are is experienced by them through hands on gardening .

Founded in 2009 with a dynamic curriculum, the garden experience teaches youngsters, the cycle of life and teaches them to understand where their food comes from. There isn’t any greater satisfaction; or greener activity. A child can experience this by smelling a flower from his or her own garden, plucking a carrot from the ground or digging new potatoes from moist sweet smelling soil. What can make parents happier than having their child say they want to eat turnips or radish for dinner?

What to expect In today’s high stress life it is our children who often face the most pressure. Their childhood days of carefree life are burdened with studies, classes, reports, classes are conducted with the help of small experiments, stories, art craft and actual hands on experience in gardening.
