Focusing on things that I have rather that I don't have. If I started focusing on the things I didn't have then I would have a list which is a mile long. – Gopika Kapoor
This quote made me stop and wonder if all of us would give this a little thought. Would we change our perspective when it comes to parenting? Will we nag lesser? Will we enjoy this beautiful journey called motherhood. Sometimes, just the prenotion of what your child should be like doesn't allow you to be the best version of yourself with your family. My child should know how to read at an early age. My child has to hit every milestone before so they are acing each aspect in life. My child should be as smart as the firstborn. But, ever stopped and wondered that each child has its journey and as a parent, a little hand-holding and a little acceptance would take them a long way. And what if your child is differently-abled? Are your dreams shattering? And if yes, why?
We spoke to Gopika Kapoor, the author of Beyond The Blue on Raising Parents, a Jio Saavn podcast hosted by Mansi Zaveri. She has recently written about Beyond The Blue where she has expressed her journey with her child with Autism. I remember 4 years ago when Gopika would write for Kidsstoppress and there was an incident that happened at a mall that made Gopika come out of the closet and say I have an autistic child and I am saying it out loud and clear. For everyone listening to this podcast, it doesn't matter if your child has autism, or another disability, or any other difference you are dealing with. She talks to us about a story of a mother and a child and beyond the fairytale life that we all dream of.
Gopika Kapoor speaks about:
- How she started her journey with her child thinking why me. And how over time, she changed the narrative at home and started enjoying her child.
- How we should avoid comparing your first born to your second one.
- Dietary restrictions for her child with Autism.
- The story of her family's journey with autism.
