Summer is in full swing and the cool waters of the pool are perfect to beat the summer and introduce a new hobby for kids during the holidays. But unlike other sports activities, getting your child to take up swimming can be slightly challenging, especially if your child fears water, this can make the first week of the swim class a daunting task, not just for kids but even for the parents- imagine paying the high coaching charges and the kid refuses to get inside the pool.

So while I wait outside the swim class and observe another mom coaxing her child to get into the pool, I can’t help notice the different parenting styles and how these moms deploy various tactics to get their kids to like the swimming lessons. 1) The helpless mom – she brings her child to the class – the kid starts crying – her heart melts – she leaves! Yes, this mom is soft hearted and her kids know it very well 😉

2) The cheerleader mom Okay, this mom hardly sits during her child’s swim class! She is constantly encouraging her child to do better with “Bravo! Good Job! Wow! I am very proud of you” and other constant praises!

3) The Undercover AgentThis mom knows that her presence makes the kids more vulnerable to tantrums. She, therefore, keeps herself well hidden in a place where her child can’t spot her but she can see every li’l movement of the little one!

4) The Swim CaptainThis mom knows to swim, hence can’t stop sharing her inputs despite the presence of a swim coach, even if that means giving out the instructions in high pitch tone across the pool.

5) The “Deadly Threats” MomThis mom’s eyes grow bigger with anger (beware!) the moment her child starts to show signs of tantrums at the swimming pool!
