Okay, so who’s excited about the new Barbie movie?
Unless you are living under a rock, you must be all excited about the new Barbie movie that is releasing this Friday in India. So much so that when you search for the Barbie movie on Google, the screen lights up all pink! (Our editor is busy playing with it as we write this, sigh!)
The movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling looks interesting (from the trailer) ‘coz it is probably going to give us an insight into fitting into a not-so-perfect world. We are done with size 0 frankly!
Growing up, the Barbie doll was a mainstay in all homes and served as the perfect birthday gift for kids. But when I grew up and handed over my prized Barbie collection with all the stylish outfits and accessories, somewhere I wondered if I was teaching a hidden lesson to my daughter. Was beauty the main takeaway from her playtime? Was I inadvertently teaching her that “you need to look perfect to be loved?”
Thankfully over the years, the makers of Barbie are working hard on removing the notion of being a kids’ gift that was pandering to gender stereotypes and vanity. The collection has vastly improved to include Barbie across different professions, and backgrounds and the diversity card is played well, we must say.
We look at some of the Barbie Dolls that go beyond the perfect looks and vanity and help teach and inspire our kids a little more. Add them to your collection right away!
