My daughter loves experimenting when it comes to clothes. Given a chance she can shop for new clothes every week. But obviously that’s not going to happen. So she’s always trying to find inexpensive ways to upcycle things. Once it was tie-dyeing her skirt and it turned out pretty well. That got the creative wheels in her head-turning.

A few days ago she came to me with her plain white T-shirt. Was bored with it! What could she do with it to make it interesting? After some searching, she came back to me with the T-shirt and her favourite box of CelloUp Oil Pastel. They have a high pigment level which would be perfect for this activity. She had a project in mind – DIY T-Shirt Printing using an iron. and she was super excited about it. I have to say it looked like a fun way to spend the afternoon.

We were going to print her favourite thing to draw on her T-shirt.  Print at home? Yes! That’s possible and super simple actually. Just make sure there is an adult around when the kids use the iron for this DIY.

So let’s get started. For this, you will need

  • Plain White T-shirt
  • Sandpaper
  • Pencil
  • Crayons
  • Scissors
  • Iron

Instructions

  • Draw a figure/cartoon whatever you like on the sandpaper with a pencil. Colour it with bright crayons. Cut out the figure and keep it ready.
  • Place a thick sheet of paper inside the T-shirt so that the imprint won’t go all the way through.
  • Keep the t-shirt flat on the table and put the coloured sandpaper cut out in the centre of the shirt with the back of the cut out facing you.
  • Iron on the cut out for 2 mins. Remove the cut out carefully and keep it aside to dry for 10 mins.

Your T-shirt is ready!

Try this activity today and don’t forget to tag us in your pictures. We would love to see the cool t-shirts you have printed at home.
