Do You Kiss Your Child On The Lips? Doc Warns It Might Be Too Sexual

Image Source: www.zimbio.comThis has literally divided parents across the world into two groups – one that believes this is ridiculous and the other that agrees with the doctor. The group that doesn’t agree with Dr Reznick has taken to posting pictures of kissing their children on the lips in a bid to show the world how non sexual and innocent the act is.

As soon as you become a parent, you will suddenly start hearing ‘expert advice‘, ‘expert warnings’, and ‘friendly suggestions’. Some of these are true, some false and some plain bizarre. For instance well wishers warn us not to give breastfeeding babies pacifiers or bottles to avoid nipple confusion. Truth? False? Depends on who you ask. As your child grows a little older you will receive advice on when to start solids, not to use nicknames, and so much more!

Well, there is a new outrage that has taken social media by storm. American Child Psychologist Dr Charlotte Reznick, way back in 2010 had warned that a ‘kiss on the lips (of the child) can be stimulating — and potentially confusing for kids. Dr Reznick is the author of The Power of Your Child’s Imagination: How to Transform Stress and Anxiety Into Joy and Success. She further added that ‘children might associate kissing with sexual or romantic activity between parents and then wonder why their parents were engaging in the same activity with them too’. She maintains that the mouth is an erogenous zone and a kiss on the lips can be misunderstood by children. She had made these comments when Hollywood star Harry Connick Jr was pictured pecking his eight-year-old daughter on the lips, but the debate has resurfaced this week and has sparked a heated debate online.
