In this first of the three talk series- Rujuta Diwekar and Kareena Kapoor jointly addressed what is right and wrong when it comes to diet and fitness for pregnant moms. Here are the highlights.

  1. Expectant moms needn’t over-eat just because they are carrying. She feels, eating the right food and the right amount is essential to maintain one’s body weight throughout their pregnancy. “Just because you’re carrying another person, it doesn’t mean you have the liberty to eat 20 chapatis.
  2. Rujuta also believes that if you stick to whatever you’ve been doing even before you were pregnant, the idea of you gaining weight or your body type changing will not happen. The plan that we’ve been following has been quite basic, maybe an extra paratha“, she said. Rujuta Diwekar released a Mental Meal Map to help people answer their queries on how to eat right.

3. Food Cravings. She said, “I’m constantly craving a lot of karela, which is quite… very different. I really like the taste, I enjoy the taste. Everyone says add a little sugar to it and the bitterness goes, but I don’t like that. I like that it has a bitter, pungent taste to it. It’s something that I enjoy. And it’s extremely rich in iron, and it’s got so many benefits in it.”

4. The actress described in a lighter vein about how she gives nutrition tips to actor-husband Saif Ali Khan, and how she insists on Rujuta Diwekar’s policy of not having more than three things on the plate. Dismissing the idea of copying everything from the West, Kareena said “We have a variety of accessible and economical home grown vegetables. One should experiment with those instead of trying to ape Western diet. I can’t live my life eating just broccoli and spinach.â€_x009d_
