Its a new year and if you have recently been gifted or bought the electronic favourite tablet/Ipad, then these apps and games should definitely be on it.

1. Winky Think Logic Puzzles ( Ages 6 to 8 years): Winky Think has about 180 logic puzzles which help build a child’s brain, work on their motor skills, reasoning, observation, spatial cognition capabilities and Common Core Learning. Kids can play from simple matching to complex games packed with obstacles, mazes and multi-touch action.

2. Star Walk 2 & Star Walk Kids ( Ages 6+): There are 2 versions of this app. The kids one has a more cartoon look and a narrator who talks about the  constellation and star names.  Several short videos give background on the moon and several planets.

The higher version is Star Walk 2 which shows you the stars and planets when you point your device in a certain direction. Learn about stars which are visible and which ones make up constellations such as Ursa Major (the Great Bear). Tap on Ursa and get a 3-D view along with details, myths and more images.

3. Jigsaws ( Open to all ages): The app comes with alot of features and is suitable for all ages. There are 200+ puzzles with easy change of levels. You can choose between 4 to 300 pieces. Pictures on your camera roll can turn into a jigsaw. Making it interesting for the kids. The app also allows you to  zoom in and out as you work on your jigsaw, randomly assorted or in the correct position or  search through pieces as you work on your jigsaw.

4. NGA Kids Art Zone ( Ages 7+): This app is based on the National Gallery Art in Washington. It lets you explore works by artists featured at the National Gallery and create your own masterpieces. You first need to  make an avatar based on an American folk art painting of a child. Choose a new head, hairstyle and clothes for the mini you.  Then create something  similar to other various art works present in the gallery using a color palette and several brushes. When you’re finished, hang it in art gallery or print it or e-mail it to your parents.

5. Thats Baloney ( Ages 8+): Hungry for knowledge? That’s Baloney! is  a fun trivia game that feeds your brain. Explore and play from five compelling categories: Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Mystery Meat. Players are shown statements and they must decide if the statement is true or baloney! Guess correctly and nibble your way closer to a perfect sandwich.
