Ever see your child reaching for the same colour time and again? How many of us have watched our children colour the sky blue, the mountains brown, the birds black, totally bound by what they see around them and afraid to take a serious colour risk?
These colour pencils may change all that!
Yusuke Imai and Ayami Moteki, a design duo in Japan, have created a set of ‘Nameless Paints’ that aim to completely change the way children learn and think about colour. Instead of using traditional colour names, each white tube of paint is labelled with an ‘equation’ showing which primary colours, and in what proportions, were used to make the colour inside.
Why have they done this, you may wonder? The “Nameless Paintâ€_x009d_ designers believe that labelling colours causes problems. “By not assigning names to the colours we want to expand the definition of what a colour can be, and the various shades they can create by mixing them,â€_x009d_ said Imai.
We think this is the perfect way for our children to expand their knowledge of colours and open their minds to the infinite possibilities that colours have to offer.
