If Christopher Columbus had worn diapers his poop would still be intact on earth.

Babies poop a lot. So, your baby in the first 30 months of his life will use approximately 6000-10000 diapers. This makes the disposables diapers the third largest consumer item in the landfills.

It takes 500 years to decompose a single diaper that is when it is exposed to sunlight. But in landfills, they aren’t exposed to any sunlight and will remain there for how long we have no idea about it. So, folks even your biodegradable diapers are the same as normal ones.

If your parents used disposables diapers for you, your old plastic diapers are still lying around underground somewhere and will probably still be there for some future generation to uncover during an archaeological dig. Lovely!

Why You Shouldn’t Use Disposable Diapers

  • Disposables Diapers are dripping in oil. Do you know it takes around 1 cup of crude oil to make one diaper?
  • Disposable diapers use 20 times more raw materials, two times more water and three times more energy to make than cloth diapers.

Do you think that disposables diapers were developed for the convenience of parents? Nope. They were developed because of a shortage of cotton. But companies saw this as a big business opportunity as convenience is one thing that I really on top of everyone’s list after you have a kid. The biggest players in the market do not disclose the harmful ingredients marking them as trade secrets. â €

Let me tell you what all diapers have and how it is bad for children â €

Save your money

There is no denying that babies are expensive. As new parents, we want to have the best for our children. I’ve always been a miser when it comes to spending, and spending money on diapers was really something I didn’t want to do. Let’s do a little math to understand how much one spends on diapers.

A child if not doing elimination communication will use around 6000-7000 diapers in 3 years. Disposable diapers from a good brand costs around Rs. 9/-. So, that amounts to around Rs. 60,000 plus around Rs 10,000 for wipes. That totals to Rs. 70,000. This cost increases as you go towards biodegradable, compostable options.

If you use cloth diapers and cloth wipes then you need a minimum of 12-14 cloth diapers and it’ll cost you around Rs 14,000. So, it’s quite obvious that cloth diapers are a better option.

But you all can and should do what’s best for your babies. I urge you all to please think about it once. Be kind to the world, be kind to the next generation.â €
