You know those teeth we take so much for granted? Well, babies go through a lot to sprout those first few teeth. From unending gnashing of their gums, to drooling and wetting their tees. From biting on absolutely anything to crying out in pain when the teeth cuts through the gums – teeth are tough and there is no masking it. But once those little pearls sprout and your baby’s toothless grin becomes even more adorable with two tiny teeth shining through you know you need to move forward and start taking care of those pearly whites. Choosing a toothpaste that your kids like always makes it a fun activity versus a chore. Fun tingly and fresh taste are always an added bonus. I tried the Pepsodent’s new flavour with the kids!

When our kids are really young we make sure to keep their teeth clean, but how do we get them to brush and clean on their own once they are older?

Here are a few tried and tested ways to make brushing fun and something kids will look forward to doing twice a day!

  1. When your child is old enough to brush on their own, involve them in the buying of the materials. Take them brush shopping and let them choose a toothpaste they like. Pepsodent for instance, has attractive brush designs and new toothpaste flavours that kids are sure to love! Children don’t like the same flavours as adults too. They find clove too strong or the toothpaste too spicy. Entice them with the new Pepsodent toothpaste flavours which has a tingly mint taste they will keep them refreshed! Remember that children between the age of 2-6 should use a toothpaste with fluoride but just a tiny, pea-sized quantity of it.
  2. Create a story or a song that is catchy and they can remember so you can bring it up every time they brush and it doesn’t seems like a chore – with a song and story it seems more like playtime.
  3. Make sure to tell them all about proper dental hygiene and why it is important to keep teeth clean.
  4. Create a reward chart where they can earn stars or points and redeem it for something they like. Make an incentive for them to brush their teeth until it becomes a habit.
  5. You could teach younger kids the sequence of things to do while brushing by making a sequencing chart.
  6. Always make sure to check the brush after a few weeks so that your child is always brushing with the best Pepsodent brush available! They are available in two colours – blue and pink.

Children brushing their own teeth is a milestone and we need to invest in the small things that will drive them towards dental hygiene.
