When I gave birth to my child, I don’t remember it as my mind that was clouded with all those worrying questions. I looked at her soft skin, and that smile – and my world halted. Little did I know that being a mother equals a lifetime of questions – be it for a toddler, a baby, or a teen. When I gave birth to my child, I didn’t realize that it would come with a barrage of unanswered questions

Currently, my task list includes:

  • Homework
  • Reminders of daily dental routines
  • School reminders and more.

But this makes me stop and think, what about skincare? Is it the most neglected topic, even when a child is born? Baby skin is different from adult skin as it is much thinner. I remember when my daughter was born, she was soft as cotton. I never wanted that to change, but it put me in a frenzy too. I wondered:

Which ingredients SHOULD BE there in the product we use for our babies?

The skin is a baby’s first line of defense against the external world. While we focus on mental health, and overall immunity, we forget to give skin care as much importance. Even though taking care of a baby’s skin may appear complicated, the important thing to remember is to keep it suitably moisturized and hydrated at all times.

As a parent, when I researched, here is what the core ingredients should look like:

Calendula Flower

Calendula is a plant in the daisy family. Here are a few benefits of the Calendula plant used in creams.

  • People have long known about the medicinal properties of this flower.Calendula promotes healing and prevents infection in wounds.
  • Calendula petals are full of flavonoids, a naturally occurring plant compound, and this compound prevents swelling, pain, and inflammation.
  • The calendula plant contains compounds that can help protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays. When used in sunscreen, it can provide natural SPF protection.
  • Calendula can nourish and moisturize your (and your baby’s!) skin.

Almond Oil

Almond oil is a natural moisturizer for the baby’s skin. Here are few benefits:

  • This oil is rich in Vitamins A, B2, B6, D & E.
  • It soothes the skin and keeps skin problems such as rashes, eczema, dry skin, etc., away.
  • It also helps in soothing and curing existing skin irritation and rashes.

Glycerin

Glycerin is one of the essential substances in the beauty and skincare industry. This key ingredient is popular amongst our parents, or even before that because they used it irrespective of your skin and hair type. It can effectively treat dry, dehydrated, and oily skin. Here are a few of the benefits:

  • It is an ideal hydrating magnet. It helps attract water content from the environment and transfers it to the skin’s surface. This makes the facial skin cells hydrated for extended periods. As a result, it helps keep the skin smooth, tender, and healthy.
  •  It is an amazing shielding agent. Glycerin is quite effective at protecting the skin and scalp from environmental aggressors like destructive bacteria, ecological damage, UV rays, and other harmful elements. These harmful substances can make your skin age before time. It also helps improve the skin’s texture.
  • Glycerin is quite helpful in restoring the pH levels of the skin and balancing it out. Its regular application can help you reduce moisture loss. It always makes your skin glowing, supple, and healthy always.
  • Glycerin is good for your skin as it breaks dead skin cells into smaller parts. As a result, it helps in easier elimination from the skin and promotes the growth of new cells. This helps make the skin healthier, clearer, and glowing.  And lastly, it is a natural healer.
  • Glycerin, when applied to wounds, can help them heal faster. It protects the wound by forming a moisture barrier that helps keep the affected area and protects it from infections.

The Calendula Lotion by Cetaphil is a popular recommendation because it ensures 24-hour hydration and protection. You don’t have to work extra hard as it quickly absorbs into the skin, leaving your newborn’s delicate skin super soft. Its paraben-free and hypoallergenic formula makes it safe to use, without worry.

It’s important to simplify parenting and share recommended tips to the parenting community – because that is what is going to get us through the day, and enjoy the finer things in parenting.
