I used to believe that I reuse, recycle, and most importantly repair. Growing up in a family that always believed in the same, and hand-me-down clothes and books were a big part of our life, I just assumed that my daily trash would be very little.

I was wrong. I am guilty of not keeping a check on my consumption. We don’t realise how daily habits are leaving a carbon footprint into the world. We are busy relying on disposable items, and purchasing more. We need to be more conscious. We need to be the eco-warriors because there is no Planet B for our children.

Did you know that 62 Million Tonnes of garbage is produced every day in India?

These statistics by Down To Earth are a shocker. I turned around, looked into my home and wondered how much waste I contributed to this.

Out of this, 5.6 million tonnes are plastic waste, 0.17 million tonnes are biomedical waste, 7.90 million tonnes are hazardous waste and 15 lakh tonnes are e-waste.

In a world where awareness programs on eliminating single-use plastic and recycling our waste are in full throttle, why are we scared to implement them in our everyday lives? I know what you are thinking. “How is it going to change for the world, if I-an individual takes the right step? Is that enough?” The answer is YES. Every single one of us counts. Every small action we do counts. Every young mind we inspire counts!

Here’s how Kidsstopperss.com is addressing this issue

Kidsstoppress.com collaborates with Hindustan Unilever, SBI, Vikaasa with Xynteo – on a special zero waste management podcast series. Here we will be educating our eco warriors on how to manage their waste. We are going to share actionable tips, tricks that will help us make that shift in our lifestyle.

In this episode Mansi Zaveri, the founder of Kidsstoppress.com talks to Pragya Kapoor – an actor and the founder of Ek Saath Foundation. They are introducing the topic of waste management, and waste segregation.

There is 100,000 tonnes worth of waste lying in one area which is getting burnt. There are fires and it smells terribly and they don’t know what to do with it. The locals had been dumping there for 50 years they decided they couldn’t do it there so they started dumping somewhere else where they’ll have the same issue – Pragya Kapoor – Actor & Founder of Ek Saath Foundation

It is about starting small, and not changing everything in one go. Pragya Kapoor does it best. Her recyclable waste came to 70-75 kg with a family of 4, and now after auditing her trash, it is down to 7 kgs.

Listen to the entire podcast to know how she does it.
